In 1921, a 19-year-old young man by the name of Chafic Halwany started out a small trading business in Beirut, dealing with fresh fruits and vegetables. Driven by hard work and dedication, the business kept flourishing throughout the years, coming a long way from its humble beginning to become, in 1950, one of the main traders in the local and regional markets. To commemorate the legacy of their father, Chafic Halwany's sons founded Les Fils de Chafic Halwany s.a.r.l in 1972, taking the business to a new regional level. The company became a major distributor of frozen, chilled and canned food items covering various product lines; namely poultry, meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits and dairy. In 1992, the management initiated a strategic conversion of the company from a commodity-driven trading to a consumer-oriented business focusing on brand building. With a vision to expand the business regionally and internationally, the management founded an off-shore company in 2003 under the name of C-Food International s.a.l., to focus on the production, marketing and distribution of a variety of seafood products. Based in Lebanon, with a branch in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, C-Food International covers today more than 35 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Central America through a well-structured network of distributors. To better reflect the long-term vision and strategic mission, the company's name was changed in 2014 to Halwany Consumer Products s.a.l. (HCP). HCP continued moving forward in a competitive market, respecting its values. Today, the company is one of the leading players in the FMCG market in Lebanon, holding a diversified product portfolio that caters to consumer needs in several food categories. The family holding Halvest s.a.l. (holding) acquired, in 2015, 60% from the shares of Frigorifer S.A., one of the largest cold storage facilities and the only frozen vegetables' factory in Romania, built on a 50,000 m2 plot of land in the city Tulcea.
