It is its mission to exercise tax and customs administration with fair taxation and respect for the citizen, for the benefit of society, bearing in mind the following values: respect for the citizen, integrity, loyalty towards the Institution, legality, professionalism and transparency. In this line, the RFB is responsible for the administration of taxes under the competence of the Union, including those on foreign trade and covering a significant part of the country's social security contributions. It also assists the Federal Executive Branch in formulation of Brazilian taxation policy, preventing and fighting against tax evasion, smuggling, embezzlement, piracy, commercial fraud, drug and endangered animals trafficking, and other illicit acts related to international trade.
