On 1st November 1968 Perlis Plantations Berhad was incorporated with the purpose of helping to establish a local sugar cane industry in the country in response to the Government's plans. In 1972, Perlis Plantations Berhad was listed on the Stock Exchange of Malaysia and Singapore, and remains listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange to this day. In 1976, the organisation started its diversification programme so as not to depend on a single business and today has business units in various industries such as grains and agribusiness, consumer products, film exhibition and distribution and property. In 2000, the name was changed from Perlis Plantations Berhad to PPB Group Berhad, to reflect the Group's diversified operations.
