Description
Albuquerque Fire Rescue was established on June 1, 1900, and has a Class 1 rating (the highest score possible) from the Insurance Service Office (ISO). Today, the department has 22 fire stations, 729 full-time firefighters and 44 civilian personnel. Over the last few decades, the City has experienced explosive growth, and its expectations of this Department have remained consistent in the face of ever-increasing call volume and the perpetual broadening scope of our service to the community. Albuquerque Firefighters respond with unparalleled service–protecting the lives and property of those in this community. AFR's experience and professionalism have created a level of public trust that present and future generations of firefighters are duty-bound to uphold. We are a progressive and innovative department, adapting to meet the service demands of our community. The scope of saving lives and property has both transformed and increased–as service demands change and expectations grow. In addition to fire suppression, the Albuquerque Fire Rescue of today provides emergency medical services, emergency dispatch services, fire prevention, arson investigation, special operations response, community paramedicine, and public education. Every action we take is intended to prepare for the actual delivery of services to people who may be facing the worst day of their lives. What becomes routine for us, is often a once in a lifetime event for them.
